SYNOPSIS
 The conditions Thursday were hardly ideal. More than two inches of rain fell in a 60-minute span during a stop-and-start first round that also featured the threat of funnel clouds in the distance. When Tiger Woods finally polished off that 69 on Thursday, he was four strokes behind Mark Calcavecchia. The weather woes continued on Friday, and Woods had to come back on Saturday morning to complete nine holes of a second-round 67 that moved him to within a shot of the lead. A course-record 63 that afternoon then boosted Woods into a comfortable three-stroke advantage. He needed that cushion, too, on Sunday as his tremendous skills of recovery were put to the test in a hard-earned one-shot victory over Jay Don Blake. Blake, who closed with a 70, missed an 18-footer for birdie on the final hole that would have forced a playoff. "What I did today, Jack Nicklaus made a pretty good living doing," Woods said. "(Jack) won a few times when he wasn't at his best, didn't he?"
